FAQs

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions. If you don’t see an answer to your question, please contact us!

Where is St. Paul’s located?

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is located at 7538 Main Street in the charming small town of Sykesville, Maryland. St. Paul’s is just a few miles north of Rt 70, about 30 minutes west of Baltimore and 30 minutes east of Frederick, and about 20 minutes south of Westminster using Rt 32 or Rt 97.

Where should I park?

Parking for seniors, those with limited mobility, and visitors is available along Church Street, adjacent to the church’s front lawn and garden area. On Sunday mornings St. Paul’s parking areas are well-marked and parking ushers are outside to assist those arriving for worship. Dedicated parking also is available in the church’s lot, the entrance to which is on Church Street near Norwood Avenue, and in the lot next to the Sunday School Building, which can be entered from Oklahoma Avenue. Free public parking is available along Main Street and across the street from the church in the municipal lots.

How do I reach the sanctuary?

If entering through our red front doors facing Main Street, take either stairway flanking the foyer. If entering using the front ramp through the door at the Fellowship Hall, make a left and follow the signs to the 2nd floor sanctuary. If you enter through the Sunday School Building, follow the stairs up to the sanctuary level.

Elevators are available. From the front lobby, follow the doors straight ahead and an elevator is to the right. A second, larger elevator is available in the Sunday School Building.

On weekdays during office hours, you can visit the church offices by using the intercom at the side entrance along Church Street.

What should I wear?

St. Paul’s doesn’t have a dress code. Some dress up; others dress casually. We suggest you dress appropriate for the season in whatever is comfortable for you to worship our Creator!

What should I expect?

We enjoy a dynamic and varied worship! Our Traditional Service is Spirit-filled. You can typically expect to experience powerful hymns both old and new; individual, corporate, and pastoral prayer; scripture reading; and a message from one of our pastors. You also will enjoy our talented choir during all but the summer months, and special music throughout the year.

At our more contemporary Son Light Service, contemporary praise and worship music is led by our “house band,” the Fishers of Men.

Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month at the Traditional service and each week at the Son Light Service. All are welcome to participate in the Lord’s Table!

How can I watch online?

We offer several ways to view our Traditional and Son Light Sunday services online. Our preferred platform is Church Online. You also can view streaming services on Facebook (with live chat) and YouTube (without live chat).

How do I become a member of St. Paul’s?

Joining a church is an important commitment to both Christ and a local body of believers. If you are thinking about taking or are ready to take that step, or are interested in transferring your United Methodist Church membership to St. Paul’s, contact one of our pastors to learn more about the process.

Is St. Paul’s part of a Charge?

Yes! Our sister church in the Sykesville Charge is Gaither United Methodist Church, just a few miles away on Gaither Road. Although we are separate churches, we have a very close relationship and share pastors, staff, and parish-wide programs and ministries such as UMYF, Bible studies, and more. Gaither offers traditional Sunday services at 9:30 am, in addition to the services at St. Paul’s.

What are St. Paul’s COVID protocols?

We strive to maintain a safe, comfortable environment for all while respecting individual choice. Currently, masking is optional. Disposable masks are provided for anyone who would like one. The church is cleaned regularly and sanitizing stations are located at various places throughout the facility.

Please note that our COVID protocols are subject to change at any time without notice.
